Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Raghubar Das has written to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over certain issues he observed during his interaction with people of Angul and Dhenkanal districts recently.
Das who visited several places in the two districts between December 5 and 7, came across people from various walks of life and several organizations. During his interaction with people, he received several issues from them.
He, in his letter, urged the state government to consider the problems and take necessary action.
In the letter to Patnaik, Das said: “During my interaction with them (people), they have brought out various issues pertaining to them… which may kindly be considered by the state government for appropriate action”.
Das, while sharing his experience, stated that he visited an old age home at Joranda in Dhenkanal being run by Maharshi Dayanand Seva Mission. The Mission wants the land to be in its name to provide basic facilities to the inmates.
Similarly, ASHA workers at Turang panchayat in Banarpal block of Angul district urged the government to construct a ‘Mamata Gruha’ for health check-up and counselling of pregnant women, the letter mentioned.
The governor also drew the attention of the CM regarding the water pollution caused by the mining operations of Mahanadi Coalfield Limited (MCL) and its adverse impact on the health of the local residents. Das said that the groundwater level in the area has also been getting depleted.
The Governor said that people expressed resentment as the Rehabilitation and Periphery Development Advisory Committee (RPDAC) has not convened a single meeting for last two years so their grievances remained unheard.
People of the area have also drawn attention to the huge loss caused to the farm sector due to the elephant menace. They claimed that the Forest Department has not been taking any steps to tackle the jumbo menace.
During his visit to Kandhaberini Ashram School, people demanded for upgradation of the School up to Class-X as no other School is available in the vicinity. They also demanded an additional 100 seated hostel for students. They also demanded adequate teachers and security for the school, Das mentioned in the letter.
The Governor, who visited Baji Rout Chhatrabas at Hakimpara in Angul, felt the need of more resources for the smooth management of the hostel which is purely unaided. He urged the government to provide necessary support to the hostel.
