Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has directed all district Collectors and District Magistrates to complete verification of 63,848 unverified applications under the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY) by August 18, officials said.

The directive was issued by the Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) as part of the state government’s efforts to ensure that no eligible beneficiary is deprived of social security pension under the scheme.

According to an official communication issued on August 13, a total of 63,848 online pension applications remained pending for verification as of August 12. A large number of these applications are awaiting action at the base level, involving BSSO user IDs in blocks and MEO user IDs in urban local bodies.

The department has circulated a district-wise list of the pending applications to the Collectors and DMs and asked them to take up the verification exercise on a “mission mode” and ensure its completion within the stipulated deadline.

The verification process is also aimed at identifying and removing ineligible applicants, thereby helping the government streamline and update the pensioner database.

At present, more than 36 lakh people are covered under the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana, with the department putting the total number of beneficiaries at 36,75,008.

The Principal Secretary to the government, Suresh Kumar Vashishth, has stressed the need for prompt verification of all pending applications to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive the social security support under the scheme.
