Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has declared August 29 (Friday) a holiday in all higher education institutions and schools across the state on account of Nuakhai festival. The decision was announced through official letters sent to universities, colleges, and district education officers.
The Higher Education Department has informed all universities and colleges under its purview that they will remain closed on August 29 in observance of Nuakhai. Additionally, the department has revised the academic calendar, allowing institutions to declare only one local holiday for the calendar year 2025, unlike the previous provision of two local holidays.
Similarly, the School and Mass Education Department has announced a holiday on August 29 for all government and government-aided schools in the state, replacing a previously scheduled local holiday.
Notably, Nuakhai is traditionally celebrated on August 28, but the government has declared August 29 as the official holiday for institutions and schools.
