Jagatsinghpur: The Odisha government has initiated the process for setting up a greenfield university in Jagatsinghpur district, with the Higher Education Department directing the district administration to identify suitable land for the proposed project.
In an official communication issued on June 12, 2026, the department has asked the Jagatsinghpur district administration to identify a contiguous parcel of land measuring approximately 50–100 acres for the proposed university. The land is required to be free from encumbrances and located either within or in close proximity to the district headquarters.
The communication further states that the identified site must be suitable for the development of a full-fledged university campus with essential infrastructure such as road connectivity, drinking water supply and electricity. The district administration has also been instructed to ensure proper recording of the land and initiate the process for its alienation in favour of the Higher Education Department, following due procedure.
The proposal follows approval from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for establishing a greenfield university in the district. Once the land is identified, detailed information including plot particulars, land classification, present possession status and availability of infrastructure will be submitted to the department for further processing.
The initiative is part of the state government’s broader plan to strengthen higher education infrastructure and expand access to quality education across the state.
Further steps will be taken once the land identification exercise is completed and necessary approvals are in place.
