Bhubaneswar: The Revenue and Disaster Management (R&DM) department has received several petitions for carving out 25 new districts.
Replying to a query by BJP MLA from Keonjhar Mohan Majhi in the Odisha Assembly on Thursday, R&DM Minister Sudam Marndi has informed that the R&DM department has received several petitions from different parts of the State for the creation of 25 new districts.
The department has received petitions for creation of new districts at Padampur, Dharmagarh, West Mayurbhanj, Rairangpur, Khiching, Bonai, Rourkela, Titlagarh, Kantabanji, Talcher, Pallahara, Athamallik, Bhubaneswar, Ghumusar, Rushikulya (headquarter at Aska), Berhampur, Bhanjanagar, Chandikhol, Athagarh, Kuchinda, Baliguda, Anandpur, Nilgiri, Soro, and Gunupur.
The information shared by the Minister said that some petitions have been received demanding not to form Rourkela district by dividing the existing Sundargarh district.
Murmu said that the government will take appropriate steps on the petitions received for the creation of new districts at the appropriate time on the basis of the Odisha Revenue Administration (Unit) Act, 1963 and taking into consideration all yardsticks and existing laws and rules.
