Odisha Govt Rolls Out One-Time Settlement Scheme For Pending E-Challans

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has introduced a One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme for individuals with pending e-challans under the Motor Vehicles Act. This initiative aims to encourage compliance with road safety regulations and efficiently recover outstanding fines.

The scheme, applicable to e-challans pending at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) level as of July 31, 2025, allows violators to settle their fines by paying a reduced amount. This is a limited-time opportunity, and those who take advantage of the scheme can avoid paying the full fine amount prescribed under the Motor Vehicles Act.

The primary objectives of the OTS scheme are to promote road safety and encourage violators to adopt safer driving habits. The scheme will be in effect for six months from the date of notification issuance. A committee, headed by the Principal Secretary to the Government, Law Department, will oversee the disposal of cases already sent to court.

The Transport Department will strictly implement the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, focusing on repeat violators and those unwilling to improve their conduct on roads. This initiative is expected to reduce the number of pending challans and enhance road safety in Odisha.
