Bhubaneswar: In a humanitarian initiative aimed at extending immediate assistance to flood-affected people, the Indian Red Cross Society, Odisha State Branch (IRCS-OSB), has dispatched relief materials to four flood-hit districts of the state.
Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati flagged off the relief materials from Lok Bhavan on Tuesday for distribution among affected families in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jajpur districts.
The relief consignment includes tarpaulins and nutritious dry food packets to help meet the immediate requirements of families affected by the floods.
Appreciating the humanitarian services rendered by the Red Cross, Governor Dr. Kambhampati stressed the importance of greater participation by young Red Cross members and youth volunteers in social service and disaster management. He urged them to actively engage in relief and humanitarian assistance activities, particularly during emergencies and natural disasters.
During the programme, representatives of the Red Cross briefed the Governor on various activities undertaken by the organisation and St. John Ambulance. They also apprised him of exemplary programmes and innovative initiatives they had observed during their visits to Gujarat and Punjab.
The Governor also interacted with volunteers of the Youth Red Cross and Youth for Service and enquired about their roles and activities in social service and humanitarian assistance.
Executive Committee Member of the IRCS, Odisha State Branch, Swayam Prakash Baral, Secretary Ganesh Chandra Patra, Joint Editor Ashok Kumar Mohanty and Junior Red Cross Officer Laxman Swain were present during the interaction.
