Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Friday urged matriculation toppers to uphold values, compassion, and integrity along with academic excellence, stating that true success lies in contributing to society and humanity.
Addressing a felicitation programme organised at the New Abhishek Hall of Lok Bhavan (formerly Raj Bhavan) here for toppers of the High School Certificate Examination-2026 conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), CBSE, and ICSE, the Governor said success should not be measured only by marks but also by character and conduct.
He said the world beyond the classroom presents opportunities as well as challenges that test an individual’s values and resilience. “Life will not be measured only by the marks you obtain, but also by the values you uphold, the compassion you show, and the positive difference you make in others’ lives,” he said.
Congratulating the achievers, the Governor said their success reflected dedication, discipline, courage, and determination. He said their achievement had brought pride to the State and would inspire other students to perform better.
The Governor further said that academic excellence is only the beginning of a longer journey and advised students to remain committed to the welfare of society and the nation. He said education becomes meaningful only when it produces responsible citizens and good human beings.
He stressed that the country needs not only skilled professionals but also honest, compassionate, and service-minded individuals. He advised students to carry honesty, humility, and kindness in all walks of life.
Highlighting the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in Odisha, the Governor said the policy aims to promote creativity, ethics, leadership, and life skills among students, ensuring holistic and well-rounded education.
He also appreciated the role of parents, teachers, and mentors in shaping the success of students through constant guidance and support. He urged the toppers to become role models and contribute towards building a just, inclusive, and compassionate society.
Students, parents, and teachers also shared their experiences on the occasion. Commissioner-cum-Secretary to the Governor Roopa Roshan Sahoo delivered the welcome address. A cultural programme was also held.
