Bhubaneswar: Odisha has 76 Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and five Central Higher Educational Institutions (CHEIs) functioning under the Ministry of Education, Union Minister of State for Education Dr. Sukanta Majumdar informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
In a written reply to a question by Odisha Rajya Sabha MP Dilip Kumar Ray, the Minister said the details were compiled from the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) 2025-26 and the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) 2023-24.
Khordha district has the highest number of Kendriya Vidyalayas in the state with 10 schools, followed by Anugola and Ganjam with seven each. Sambalpur has five KVs, while Balangir and Kataka have four each.
The Ministry data revealed that several districts, including Baragada, Bhadrak, Boudh, Deogarh, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Kandhamala, Kendrapada, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nayagarh, Nuapada and Sonpur, have one or two Kendriya Vidyalayas.
Odisha’s five Central Higher Educational Institutions include the Central University of Odisha at Koraput, National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Sundaragada, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) at Ganjam, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Sambalpur and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Khordha.
According to UDISE+ 2025-26, a total of 2,245 teachers are engaged in Kendriya Vidyalayas across Odisha.
As per AISHE 2023-24, the five Central Higher Educational Institutions in the state have 753 teachers, 686 non-teaching employees and 1,758 PhD scholars.
