Bhubaneswar: Odisha is home to 30 tigers, 8 cubs, and an estimated 680–724 Leopards, Forest, Environment & Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singhkhuntia informed the State Assembly on Tuesday.
In a written reply to a question by senior Congress leader and Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Minister Singhkhuntia said the figures are based on the State-Level Tiger Census 2024. He added that these numbers reflect the state’s growing tiger population and the successful measures taken for their conservation.
To monitor tiger movements and study their behavior, the state has installed 4,234 trap cameras across various forests, at a total cost of Rs 9.33 crore. The cameras have been strategically placed in tiger habitats to ensure continuous monitoring and effective management of the big cats.
Minister Singhkhuntia emphasised that the government remains committed to preserving Odisha’s forests and ensuring the safety and growth of its tiger population.
