Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to revolutionize urban governance in Odisha, the Housing & Urban Development (H&UD) Department held its monthly Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) meeting on Wednesday.
The meeting, chaired by Principal Secretary Usha Padhee, focused on accelerating urban transformation through comprehensive reforms and sustainable development initiatives.
Padhee emphasized the pivotal role of efficient public service delivery in fostering sustainable urban growth. She urged all ULBs to intensify their efforts in shaping the future of Urban Odisha by prioritizing key flagship programs. These include accelerating affordable housing projects, enhancing urban infrastructure, improving basic services like water supply, sanitation, and public amenities, and strengthening the financial sustainability of ULBs.
Senior officials, including Director of Municipal Administration Arindam Dakua, Special Secretaries, Additional Secretaries, and the Joint Secretary, presented actionable roadmaps with clear timelines to ensure progress across all 115 ULBs, District Urban Development Agencies (DUDAs), and Development Authorities.
The meeting underscored the government’s commitment to reform-driven urban transformation, with a focus on capacity building, digital governance, and community participation. ULBs were directed to adopt data-driven strategies to improve sanitation, waste management, and municipal services, aiming to set new benchmarks in urban development.
Speaking at the event, Usha Padhee stated, “Urbanization is not just about expanding cities but about ensuring quality living standards for all. Through structured reforms, technological advancements, and participatory governance, we are committed to building a resilient and prosperous Urban Odisha.”
The meeting concluded with a collective resolution to strengthen coordination among stakeholders, enhance service delivery, and fast-track development projects. These efforts align with the state’s vision of Viksit Odisha, ensuring a sustainable and inclusive urban future.
