Bhubaneswar: In a significant step towards reducing India’s dependence on imported crude oil, Odisha Lok Bhavan has decided to transition entirely to electric vehicles (EVs) and set up a 500-kilowatt solar rooftop power generation system.
The move comes in direct response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to citizens to cut fuel consumption amid global oil market uncertainties. Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, highlighted the initiative while addressing the importance of collective action for economic strength.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a call to all the citizens of the country to take certain measures to strengthen the economy of the country. To preserve the usage of the petroleum products, instead of using vehicles run by petrol and diesel, he advised shifting to electric vehicles so that the crude oil import can be reduced and the country’s dependence on crude oil can be minimised.
Therefore, Lok Bhavan, Odisha, has taken steps to use only electric vehicles and also Lok Bhavan has taken steps to establish a 500-kilowatt solar rooftop system to generate power, he said.
This green initiative at Lok Bhavan is expected to serve as a model for other government establishments in the state. Officials believe the combination of electric mobility and solar power generation will significantly reduce the carbon footprint and operational costs of the premises in the long run.
