Odisha Pays Tribute To Krushna Chandra Gajapati On Birth Anniv

Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Sunday paid rich tributes to Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati Narayan Dev on his birth anniversary, remembering his pivotal role in the formation of the separate Odisha province and his contributions as a visionary leader and statesman.

The commemorative programme was held at the Odisha Legislative Assembly premises, where Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Bhubaneswar (Ekamra) MLA Babu Singh and other dignitaries paid floral tributes to the legendary leader.

Widely regarded as the architect of Naba Utkal and one of the key figures behind the unification of Odia-speaking regions, Krushna Chandra Gajapati was born on April 26, 1892, in the royal family of Paralakhemundi in Ganjam district. He was known for his love of literature, administrative acumen, and deep commitment to public service.

A strong advocate for the formation of a separate Odisha state, he played a decisive role in the creation of the province for Odia-speaking people during the pre-Independence era. His leadership and political vision earned him respect as a statesman, patriot, educationist and efficient administrator.

Krushna Chandra Gajapati passed away on May 25, 1974, at the age of 82 in Paralakhemundi. His contributions continue to be remembered as foundational to Odisha’s identity and statehood movement.

Leaders present at the event highlighted his enduring legacy and said his life and work continue to inspire generations in the state.
