Odisha Poised To Emerge As Beacon Of Inclusive Growth In Eastern India: Development Commissioner

Bhubaneswar: The 184th State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) meeting was held under the chairmanship of Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary Deoranajan Kumar Singh to review banking sector performance up to June 2026 at a Hotel in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

Chairing the meeting, Singh urged all banks to work in close coordination with State Government to achieve the vision of Samruddha Odisha 2036 and Viksit Bharat 2047, with emphasis on balanced and inclusive growth. He advised banks and district administrations to work in coordination to achieve targets set for current financial year.

 “Odisha, being a major producer of iron ore, chromite and bauxite, aims to strengthen its economy through value addition. The State’s 575-km coastline provides significant opportunities for tourism, port-led growth and industrial development,” Singh said.

He said the State is focusing on developing its young population into skilled and productive human resource across sectors through skill development programmes.

“Several national and international institutions are showing keen interest in investing in Odisha. Odisha is preparing to emerge as a leading economic hub in Eastern India in coming years,” he added.

The meeting held detailed discussions on effective implementation of flagship schemes including Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Atal Pension Yojana (APY), Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana, PM Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), PMFME, Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana (MKUY) etc.

Emphasis was laid on providing greater credit support to women entrepreneurs and facilitating their transition from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). It was observed that women empowerment has emerged as an important identity of Odisha at national level, while significant increase in number of Lakhpati Didis is a major achievement for State’s economic development.

Principal Secretary, Finance, Sanjeeb Kumar Mishra highlighted important role of banks in effective implementation of major welfare schemes of Central and State Governments. Detailed discussions were held on Annual Credit Plan for 2026-27 with focus on Agriculture & Allied, MSMEs and other priority sectors.

Joint Secretary, Department of Financial Services, GoI, Shalini Pandit emphasized need to improve State’s Credit-Deposit (CD) Ratio to bring it at par with national average. She also appreciated successful implementation of Atal Pension Yojana in State. All banks were advised to take concerted measures to expand banking network and improve access to banking services in rural areas and take steps to refund amounts lying in DEAF accounts to concerned individuals and Government offices.

Principal Secretary Finance Sanjeeb Kumar Mishra, Joint Secretary DFS Shalini Pandit, Regional Director RBI, Secretaries of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Women & Child Development, MSME and Mission Shakti, Directors and senior officials of various departments, Executive Director UCO Bank, Convener SLBC, CGM NABARD and State Controlling Heads of banks were present.
