Bhubaneswar: In a significant breakthrough, the Cyber Police Station in Bhubaneswar has arrested a man from Uttar Pradesh in connection with a Rs 98 lakh cyber fraud case.
The arrest was made on September 10 from Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh and the accused was subsequently brought to Bhubaneswar after being produced before a local court.
According to police, the action was taken based on a written complaint filed by a city resident at the Cyber Police Station on July 4. The complainant alleged that he had been duped after joining a WhatsApp group through a link received in June 2025.
“The accused, along with others, lured the victim with promises of high returns on investments,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena while addressing media persons on Friday.
During the investigation, police recovered Rs 30 lakh in cash, three mobile phones, and four SIM cards from the accused. In addition, two websites used to trap unsuspecting investors were taken down as part of the operation.
Further investigation into the case is going on.
