Sundargarh: Acting on a tip-off, the Kutra police in Odisha’s Sundargarh district busted a racket involved in trafficking women from the district to Rajasthan.
The police rescued two minor girls from Rajasthan and arrested six people from Sundargarh district. Two more people were arrested in Rajasthan in connection with the racket. The arrested include Sonu Sharma, Pinky Devi, Sheikh Ashraf Ali (a physically challenged man), and Manu Sharma in Sundargarh district, while Sain Rai Gautam and Rameshchand Kushwaha were arrested in Rajasthan, Rajgangpur SDPO Abhishek Panigarahi told the media.
According to reports, a tribal girl went missing from the Kutra police station area of Sundargarh district in October last year. Last May, almost seven months after she went missing, the minor called home and asked her family to rescue her. After receiving the call from the minor, the family lodged a complaint with the police. A nine-member team led by Rajgangpur SDPO traced the mobile call during the investigation and rescued the minor from the Bara district of Rajasthan. The minor is eight months pregnant. The police also rescued another minor from the Rayagada district.
