Odisha Sizzles: 10 Places Cross 40°C, Jharsuguda Hottest At 42.5°C

Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to reel under intense heat on Wednesday as 10 districts recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.

Jharsuguda was the hottest at 42.5°C, followed by Talcher at 41.5°C and Hirakud at 41.0°C.Sambalpur and Bolangir both recorded 40.8°C, while Angul logged 40.7°C. Bargarh registered 40.4°C, Dhenkanal 40.3°C, and Nayagarh and Boudh touched 40.0°C each.

The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar both recorded 39.2°C.Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Warning for June 12, asking people to be prepared to take action.

Thunderstorm with lightning, gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph, and heavy rainfall are very likely at one or two places over Kendrapara, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts. The same thunderstorm and wind conditions, without heavy rain, are also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Khurda, and Nayagarh.

A Yellow Warning has been issued for 18 districts including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Puri for thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 40-50 kmph.

Hot and humid conditions are also likely to prevail at isolated places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh, the IMD said.

People have been advised to stay indoors during afternoon hours and avoid exposure to direct sunlight.
