Odisha Speaker Sets Up Key House Committees Among 35 Panels For 2026-27

Bhubaneswar: Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly Surama Padhy has constituted several important committees of the House for the financial year 2026-27.

The Speaker has set up more than 35 committees, including key ones such as the Public Accounts Committee, Rules Committee, Committee of Privileges, Committee on Subordinate Legislation, Committee on Petitions, and the Library Committee.

The Rules Committee will be chaired by the Speaker herself. Its members include senior ministers Dr Mukesh Mahaling, Prithiviraj Harichandan, Government Chief Whip Saroj Kumar Pradhan, and MLAs Pratap Keshari Deb, Tusharkanti Behera, and Sagar Charan Das.

Besides, Jayanarayan Mishra has been appointed as the Chairman of the Committee of Privileges. Other members of this committee include Dr Mukesh Mahaling, Prithiviraj Harichandan, Saroj Kumar Pradhan, Congress Legislature Party Leader Rama Chandra Kadam, Niranjan Pujari, and Prasanna Acharya.

Speaker Surama Padhy nominated Pramila Mallik, who is the Chief Whip of the Biju Janata Dal Legislature Party, to head Public Accounts Committee.

Meanwhile, Irasis Acharya has been named Chairman of the Committee on Subordinate Legislation, while Prasanta Kumar Jagadev has been appointed Chairman of the Committee on Petitions.

In another significant development, Akash Dasnayak has been chosen as the Chairman of the Library Committee. Notably, this committee also includes 11 suspended MLAs as its members.

The formation of these committees is expected to strengthen the legislative oversight mechanism and ensure smooth functioning of the Odisha Assembly in the coming year.
