Bhubaneswar: In a major step towards strengthening disaster preparedness, the Odisha Government has announced plans to set up a state-of-the-art Disaster Management Building in the capital city.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said on Saturday that the ₹200-crore project will come up near Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar. Construction is expected to be completed within two years.
The multi-storey complex, equipped with underground facilities, will bring together key disaster response agencies under one roof. Offices of the Special Relief Commissioner, the Fire Services Department, and other critical units will be housed in the new building. “This integration will enable seamless coordination and quicker decision-making during emergencies,” Pujari noted.
The building will also be digitally linked with all districts, ensuring real-time communication and faster mobilization of resources during crises. Additionally, the state government is in talks with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to secure advanced technology and infrastructure support for further strengthening Odisha’s disaster management framework.
The initiative comes as part of the state’s long-term strategy to enhance its resilience against cyclones, floods, and other natural calamities, officials said.
