Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths arrested a contractor for allegedly misappropriating government funds to the tune of Rs 56,93,957. The accused, identified as Sri Laxmidhara Routaray, was found to have siphoned off the funds in connivance with Soil Conservation Overseer Sri Harishchandra Bentkar.

According to sources, the scam involved non-execution of 22 Loose Boulder Check Dams under the Watershed project at Khariar in Nuapada district. A case has been registered against the accused contractor under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The arrested contractor has been forwarded to the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatana. The vigilance team is now working to arrest the main accused, Harishchandra Bentkar, and another contractor Abhilash Meher.
