Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths of Tuesday arrested Dhenkanal Sadar Circle Revenue Inspector (RI) Barun Kumar Jena along with Balaram Sahu, a private person posing himself as an additional peon of the RI office, at the office of the RI for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 based on a complaint for submission of a favourable enquiry report in a mutation case for conversion of agricultural land to homestead land and issuance of ROR (land patta) in his favour.
Both the accused persons were trapped by a team of the Odisha Vigilance while Jena was receiving the demanded bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant and transferring the amount to Sahu to keep the bribe money in the dickey of the latter’s motorcycle.
The entire bribe money has been recovered from their possession and seized.
Following the successful trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations of Jena from the disproportionate asset (DA) angle.
A case has been registered in this connection at the Cuttack Vigilance police station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
