Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials on Friday arrested Srikanta Dakua, a Junior Assistant at the office of the Sub-Registrar in Belaguntha, Ganjam district, after he was caught with suspected ill-gotten cash amounting to Rs 1.86 lakh on Thursday.
According to an official press release, Dakua was intercepted by Vigilance officials while he was returning to his residential quarters in Buguda from his office. During the interception, officials discovered the cash in his possession.
Dakua failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the source of the money, prompting the Vigilance team to seize the amount. Following the seizure, a case was registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Dakua was subsequently arrested and produced before the Special Vigilance Judge in Berhampur on Friday.
