Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Sunday caught Kendujhar District Labour Officer Akash Bisoi while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from an electrical contractor for issuing a labour licence in favour of his agency.
Bisoi, an OLS-I officer, was apprehended during a trap operation after the contractor approached the Vigilance authorities alleging that the officer had demanded Rs 20,000 for issuing the licence.
According to an official press release, the contractor had been entrusted with electrical installation works by TPNODL. Since a labour licence was required to engage workers for executing the work, he applied online on August 14, 2026, as per the rules of the Labour and ESI Department, Government of Odisha.
When the contractor enquired about the issuance of the licence on August 16, Bisoi allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 for the purpose. The contractor subsequently reported the matter to the Vigilance authorities.
Acting on the complaint, a team of Odisha Vigilance laid a trap on Sunday evening. Bisoi was allegedly caught while accepting the bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant.
The entire tainted bribe amount was recovered from Bisoi’s possession and seized, the Vigilance said.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches were launched at two locations linked to Bisoi from the disproportionate assets angle.
