Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Thursday intercepted Muralidhar Urmal, Tahasildar-cum-Sub-Registrar of Lathikata in Sundargarh district, and seized Rs 5 lakh in cash allegedly suspected to be ill-gotten, an official statement said.
Acting on reliable inputs, a Vigilance team intercepted Urmal near Rajabasa Chhak in Lathikata while he was travelling from his office towards his residence in Rourkela in his hired office vehicle, a Scorpio, the statement said.
According to the Vigilance, Rs 5 lakh in cash was recovered from Urmal’s possession. As he allegedly failed to satisfactorily explain the source of the cash, the entire amount, along with the Scorpio vehicle, was seized.
Following the interception, simultaneous searches were launched at three locations linked to Urmal as part of a disproportionate assets investigation, the agency said.
The searches were continuing, the statement added.
