Bhubaneswar: The winter chill has returned to Odisha with a noticeable drop in minimum temperatures this morning, ending a short period of milder conditions caused by cloudy skies and a temporary rise in night readings.
After experiencing a brief reprieve where minimum temperatures had climbed notably higher, the mercury has dipped again across several districts. This resurgence of colder weather follows the clearing of clouds and the re-entry of dry, chilly northerly winds, intensifying the ongoing cold wave effects in parts of the state.
Record minimum temperatures recorded at 5:30 AM today—
Jharsuguda: 10°C
Kendujhar (Keonjhar): 11°C
Chandbali: 13.8°C
Bhubaneswar: 14°C
Balasore: 14.2°C
These figures mark a clear decline compared to the warmer spell observed just days ago, when coastal and northern areas saw rises of 5-7°C above recent lows due to overcast conditions. Interior districts like Jharsuguda have been particularly hard-hit this winter, with earlier record-breaking lows, and today’s dip signals the cold wave’s persistence.
Cold wave conditions are likely to affect isolated pockets in districts such as Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Angul, Keonjhar, and others.
