Bhubaneswar: Dr Rohan Biswal, a 23-year-old house surgeon at the pediatric department of SUM Hospital in Odisha capital, is shining in ‘Indian Idol’ Season -14, the country’s premier singing reality programme telecast on SonyLiv every Saturday and Sunday.
Rohan’s performance in the audition round not only impressed the judges – Shreya Ghoshal, Kumar Shanu, and Vishal Dadlani but also earned him a ‘golden ticket’ ensuring his performance in the next rounds. His rendering of the Hindi song “Kaise Hua” from the popular movie “Kabir Singh” impressed the judges at the show so much that they fondly nicknamed him the “Doctor-Singer”.
Rohan started his journey in music under the tutelage of his parents, both singers and later trained in Hindustani Classical music from his guru Debendra Narayan Sathpathy. Seeing his interest in music, Rohan’s parents, his guruji, and teachers at the medical college encouraged him to pursue his passion.
He was adjudged the best singer at the Junior Level MBC Singing Super Star in 2014, and in the next year, he reached the Top 20 of the “Indian Idol Junior” Season 2.
Although learning medicine and music are two different things, Rohan desires to merge both while treating small children. He sings to his little patients at the SUM Hospital, easing their pain and suffering. “When I administer injections to small children or insert needles to administer them saline or glucose, I find fear and pain in their eyes. So, I sing before treating them. This often eases their pain and drives their fear away,” said Rohan.
