Bhubaneswar: Recruitment to Odisha Education Service (OES) Group-B posts will be conducted through a two-stage selection process comprising a written examination and a personality test, according to the examination scheme and syllabus notified by the School and Mass Education Department on Tuesday.

Candidates will first have to appear for a written examination carrying 600 marks. Those who qualify in the written examination will be called for a personality test carrying 75 marks. The final merit list for appointment to OES Group-B posts will be prepared on the basis of candidates’ performance in both stages.

The written examination will comprise two papers of 300 marks each. Paper I will be an objective-type paper, while Paper II will be subjective.

Paper I will consist of 150 questions carrying two marks each. The paper will cover General Awareness, Odia and General English. It will have negative marking, with 25% of the marks assigned to a question deducted for every incorrect answer. No marks will be awarded for unanswered questions.

The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC), which will conduct the recruitment examination, will decide whether the objective paper will be conducted through Optical Mark Recognition (OMR)-based evaluation or a Computer-Based Test (CBT).

Paper II, carrying 300 marks, will test candidates on the Education subject through subjective-type questions. The commission will decide the number of questions to be included from different components of the prescribed syllabus.

The commission will also prescribe qualifying marks for individual papers and/or the aggregate for different categories of candidates.

In case two or more candidates secure equal marks, merit will first be determined on the basis of higher aggregate marks in the written examination. If their written examination scores are also equal, the candidate securing higher marks in a Master’s degree examination will be placed higher in the merit list.

The tie-breaking provision will be applied in accordance with the Odisha Education Service (Method of Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2019.
