Bhubaneswar: Former Lanjigarh MLA Sibaji Majhi passed away late on Tuesday night at his native village Bijepur Danaraguda. His demise is being described as an irreparable loss for the Lanjigarh region. He was 55.
A few days ago, Majhi had complained of chest pain. He was first shifted to Bhawanipatna and later taken to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment. After undergoing treatment at the hospital, he was discharged and returned to his village where he breathed his last on Tuesday night.
As per reports, Majhi began his political career in Odisha and became the first MLA of the newly formed Lanjigarh constituency, representing it from 2009 to 2014. He worked extensively for the development of the tribal-dominated and remote areas of Lanjigarh and Thuamul Rampur.
Following the formation of the Special Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Council in Kalahandi district, he served as its first Chairman and took several important steps for the welfare of tribal and Dalit communities in the region. Majhi was known for leading a simple life. His approachable nature and good conduct earned him widespread respect and affection among the people.
News of his death has cast a shadow of grief across the entire district. Leaders of various political parties, social workers and common people have expressed deep sorrow and prayed for the peace of his soul.
