Bhubaneswar: Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), the wholly owned Corporation of the Government of Odisha, celebrated its 68th Foundation Day at Jayadev Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on May 16.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Prafulla Kumar Mallik, Minister, Steel & Mines and Works, Government of Odisha, said, “Since its inception in 1956, OMC has travelled a long way and today it stands amongst the top mining companies in the country, propelling the economy of the state and contributing immensely for the welfare the people of Odisha, especially for the people residing in the periphery areas of its mining regions.
Mallik further added that OMC has been fulfilling the State’s aspirations to be an industrially advanced and resurgent economy.
Addressing the employees, Deoranjan Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary Home, Steel & Mines-cum-Chairman, OMC, said that since last two to three years, OMC has been going through its golden period and praised the OMC workforce for demonstrating professionalism and skill in achieving the feat.
He advised the officials to aim for Rs 30,000 crore turnover and Rs 10,000 crore profit in the next two to three years. He further advised to prioritize employee welfare, community development in mining regions and safeguarding the environment.
As part of the Annual Reward & Recognition Program of the Corporation, prizes were awarded in various categories, including best region, best-performing mines, best-prospecting unit, best mines on the safety front, and best mines in CSR achievements & SDF rating and best male & female executives.
Also present on the occasion were Sudhanshu Sekhar Khora, Executive Director, (F&E); Satyajit Mohanty, Director (Finance); Sabyasachi Mohanty, Director (Operations); Alok Kumar Pal, Director (Human Resources); Kshirod Chandra Brahma, Director (Project & Planning) and other employees and partners of the Corporation.
The largest state PSU recorded production of 33.76 Million Ton ore which include iron, chrome and bauxite in the last Financial Year 2022-23.
From its incorporation in 1956, to acquiring the first iron ore Mining Lease of Tungeisani in Cuttack district in 1967, to surpassing production of 30 million ton with turnover of more than Rs 17,000 crore in FY 2021-22 speaks about the transformational journey of OMC.
