Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, one woman died and five members of her family sustained critical injuries following a gas cylinder explosion in Ranpur NAC area of Nayagarh district on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Geetarani Mohanty (59). She succumbed to her burn injuries on Monday morning while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The condition of the other five injured family members remains critical, and doctors at the premier institute are closely monitoring them.
According to reports, the explosion occurred suddenly at their residence. Locals immediately rushed to the spot and helped shift the injured persons to nearby medical facilities. They were later referred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment.
Soon after the news broke, local MLA and Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy visited the hospital to meet the injured family members. She enquired about their condition with the treating doctors and assured all possible help and support from the government side.
Further investigation into the exact cause of the blast is underway.
