Bhubaneswar: Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) on Monday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Power System Simulation Laboratory at its Power Training Centre (PTC) in Chandaka, aimed at strengthening grid management capabilities and enhancing operational reliability across the state’s transmission network.
The facility was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo in the presence of OPTCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma and other senior officials.
Designed as an advanced technical hub, the laboratory is equipped with modern simulation tools that will enable engineers to model complex grid scenarios, conduct load flow analysis, assess system stability, and simulate fault conditions in real time. Officials said the initiative would significantly improve OPTCL’s capacity in power system planning while ensuring a more resilient and efficient transmission network to meet Odisha’s growing energy demand and facilitate renewable energy integration.
Speaking at the inauguration, Singh Deo emphasised the importance of a robust transmission system in driving economic growth. He said the new facility would help engineers anticipate operational challenges, optimise grid performance, and ensure uninterrupted quality power supply to industries, agriculture, and households, aligning with the state’s vision of a developed Odisha.
Sarma said the laboratory would function as a centre of excellence for training, research, and innovation in power system studies. It will offer hands-on learning opportunities for OPTCL and State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC) engineers, support data-driven decision-making, and strengthen preparedness to handle grid contingencies, he added.
The event was attended by Director (SLDC) B.B. Mehta, Director (Operation) Prasanta Kumar Pattanaik, Director (Projects) Pradeep Kumar Dash, Director (Finance) Srikanta Kumar Sahoo, and CGM (HRD) Anita Mahapatra, who delivered the vote of thanks, along with senior engineers and staff of OPTCL.
