Balasore: A severe collision between a bus and a speeding truck near College Chowk on National Highway-16 left more than 40 people injured on Wednesday afternoon. The accident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Soro Police Station in Balasore district.
The private bus, named Ajay, was traveling from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata when the crash took place. Eyewitnesses reported that a speeding truck, coming from the opposite direction (towards Jajpur), lost control and collided head-on with the bus. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles, leaving passengers trapped inside.
Local police, along with residents, swiftly responded to the scene, rescuing the injured and rushing them to nearby hospitals. Preliminary reports indicate that most of the bus passengers sustained injuries, though none are in life-threatening condition. However, the truck driver, identified as Ramesh Chandra Pandey (a resident of Mangori village in Bihar’s Ara district), suffered critical injuries and remains hospitalized.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, with initial suspicions pointing towards possible speeding or mechanical failure. Traffic on NH-16 was temporarily disrupted but has since been restored.
