Bhubaneswar: Odisha issued 60,242 e-challans for traffic violations on Wednesday, the second day of the ‘Zero Fatality Week’ campaign aimed at curbing road accidents and fatalities, the State Transport Authority (STA) said.
The enforcement drive saw helmet violations account for the highest number of challans, with 33,061 motorists penalised for riding without helmets.
As many as 5,681 e-challans were issued for speeding, while 1,820 motorists were booked for triple riding. Another 1,722 challans were issued for driving vehicles without valid insurance, the STA said in a post on X on Thursday.
The ‘Zero Fatality Week’ campaign is aimed at strengthening enforcement of road safety regulations and encouraging motorists to follow traffic rules to prevent accidents and save lives.
The transport authority urged road users to exercise caution, comply with traffic regulations and adopt safe driving practices.
The latest enforcement figures come a day after authorities issued 44,746 e-challans on the first day of the campaign on September 1, with helmet violations again accounting for the largest share.
The STA has stepped up enforcement during the campaign as part of efforts to improve road safety and reduce fatalities caused by traffic violations.
