Bhubaneswar: A pilgrim bus met with an accident on National Highway 16 near Bidu Bazaar under Soro police station early this morning, killing the driver and injuring more than 20 passengers.
The bus was returning from Digha to Puri with 50 pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh when the mishap occurred. It is suspected that the driver, fatigued during the early hours, lost control and hit the road divider.
On receiving information from locals, police and fire department personnel rushed to the spot. They rescued the passengers and shifted the injured to Soro hospital for treatment.
Further investigation into the accident is underway. The condition of several injured pilgrims is being monitored by doctors.
