Bhubaneswar: The State of Odisha has got a female Deputy Chief Minister for the first time in political history after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) picked Pravati Parida along with the veteran KV Singh Deo to be the deputies of CM-designate Mohan Majhi.
The State is going to witness its first chief minister from BJP while Parida, despite being a first-timer, is all set to assume the charge of deputy CM.
Parida, who won from Nimapara Assembly seat for the first time against BJD’s Dilip Nayak, is a prominent woman face of the party. She had held different party positions in different times including State Mahila Morcha chief.
The woman leader won the Assembly election against the BJD leader by a margin of over 4,500 votes. In 2019, she lost to BJD’s Samir Ranjan Dash, who had joined the BJP this time and helped Pravati to win the poll.
Meanwhile, KV Singh Deo, a six-time MLA from Patnagarh, was named as another deputy CM in the new government.
Mohan Majhi and his team are scheduled to take oath at a grand ceremony tomorrow.
