Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are scheduled to visit Mayurbhanj district of Odisha on June 19 and 20.
Announcing the visit, Odisha’s Forest and Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singhkhuntia said that Prime Minister Modi had promised to visit President Murmu’s native village before the end of her tenure, and he is now fulfilling that commitment.
As per schedule, PM Modi will address a major public meeting at Rairangpur. He will lay the foundation stone of the Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM) – the first such institute in Odisha – at Sulidumar in Kusumi block.
Besides, a new state-of-the-art laboratory for scientific testing of seized wildlife articles (such as tiger skins and other animal parts) will be established in Odisha. Currently, such samples have to be sent to Dehradun for examination.
Both the President and the Prime Minister will visit Pahadpur, the native village of President Droupadi Murmu in Rairangpur area.
The Minister informed that the Mayurbhanj MP had received a communication regarding the visit. He expressed confidence that the high-profile visit will give a significant boost to the heritage and overall development of Mayurbhanj district as well as the state of Odisha.
Detailed programmes and security arrangements will be finalised by the district administration.
