Malkangiri: The Principal Secretary of the Housing & Urban Development and Commerce & Transport Departments, Usha Padhee, conducted a day-long visit to Malkangiri on Saturday to assess the progress of ongoing infrastructure and development projects.
During her visit, Padhee chaired a review meeting at the District Council Conference Hall, evaluating projects under both departments and discussing challenges with officials.
Her first stop was Govindapalli, where she inspected the existing bus stand, followed by the newly constructed bus stand at Mathili. She reviewed passenger amenities and operational readiness at the new facility. Padhee also visited the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and the newly constructed Malkangiri Municipal Council building, engaging with officials on administrative and public service matters.
At the MV-42 compost centre under the Swachh Bharat Mission, Padhee interacted with sanitation workers, enquiring about their working conditions and opportunities for improving livelihood and welfare.
She reviewed the water conservation project at BB Guda Tank in front of the District Collector’s office. Officials stated that an additional Rs 2 crore is required to complete the project. Padhee directed the Municipal Council to prepare and submit a Detailed Project Report (DPR) promptly and assured that the proposal would be considered for sanction.
The Principal Secretary also visited a nearby food centre, interacted with local residents, and inspected the ongoing bus stand construction in Malkangiri town. During her inspection of the airstrip, she discussed operational readiness with engineers from the Road & Buildings Department and urged expedited action to make it functional at the earliest.
The visit concluded with an inspection of the Adarsh Cemetery, where Padhee reviewed maintenance and facilities. The programme was attended by District Council Chief Development Officer and Executive Officer Naresh Chandra Shabar, along with senior officials from various departments.
