Bhubaneswar: Prof. Jagneshwar Dandapat has been reappointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University, according to an official notification issued by the Raj Bhavan on Friday. He will continue to serve in the post until a new Vice-Chancellor is appointed.
Prof. Dandapat’s earlier appointment was set aside on July 22 following a directive from the Orissa High Court, which cited non-compliance with provisions of the old University Act. However, after a recent amendment to the University Act by the State Cabinet, the Chancellor has reinstated him in the role.
The reappointment brings clarity to the university’s leadership, which had briefly remained in limbo following the court’s order. The amendment to the Act has effectively addressed the legal basis on which the previous appointment was challenged.
