Puri: Donations worth Rs 56.70 lakh have been received through e-Hundi ‘Samarpan’ within 45 days of its launch, indicating growing interest among devotees to donate through digital mode rather than the traditional hundis installed at Puri Jagannath temple.
As per reports, the digital hundi ‘Samarpan’ was launched by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on July 15, ahead of Rath Yatra.
Shree Mandir Chief Administrator Dr Arabinda Padhee informed that as devotees can donate to the Shree Jagannath Temple and Lord from anywhere in the world and also download the receipt, interest in it is growing among devotees.
According to Shree Jagannath Temple Administration, Jagannath Temple’s fixed deposits Crossed Rs 1811 crore. The income of the Srimandir mainly comes from devotees’ donations, interest on fixed deposits, land sale, land acquisition and government grants.
A specific part of this income is kept as fixed deposit under Corpus Fund and another part as Foundation Fund. The remaining income is kept as Temple Fund. The daily expenses of the Srimadir are met from this Temple Fund and the surplus amount is kept as fixed deposit. Managing all these assets transparently and properly is the primary responsibility of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration.
Till the end of last month, a total of Rs 1811.09 crore has been kept as fixed deposit under these three schemes. Of this, Rs 1311.09 crore is deposited in various nationalized banks and Rs 500 crore Corpus Fund provided by the Odisha Government is kept in the PL account of Shree Jagannath Temple.Apart from this, Rs 100.70 crore is available in various bank accounts (Savings/Current/Flexi) of Shree Jagannath Temple till date.
It is worth noting that last month, the Srimandir hundi received donations worth Rs 1.43 crore. The highest single-day collection of Rs 6.73 lakh was recorded on the August 24. The hundi receives more than Rs 1 crore in donations every month, and the amount has increased further after the introduction of the e-hundi system.
