Puri: Lights went off inside Shree Jagannath temple and its premises in Puri during the rush hour in the evening on Wednesday following a sudden power trip.
Devotees moved into the shrine amid dark as the temple was plunged into darkness for around 20 minutes.
The power backup system also failed to restore the power supply. Though some areas of the temple were illuminated with mini inverters, major points of the temple faced darkness.
Darkness reigned from the Singhadwar, Baisi Pahacha and inner portion of the temple. The snag occurred at the high-security venue at around 9 pm.
The devotees were seen returning and entering in the absence of lights. Pilgrims took the help of earthen lamps for communication. The inverter installed in the west gate also failed to function during the time of power cut.
The temple administrator (Development) said that such a situation arose out of a sudden power trip.
