Puri: In a shocking development in the Kumbharapada area of Puri, police on Tuesday recovered the decomposed body of a woman from under the kitchen floor of a rented house.
As per reports, the woman’s son is alleged to have killed her, buried the body and plastered over the floor. The body is estimated to be around four days old. A knife was also seized from the spot.
The case came to light on Monday after a strong foul smell started emanating from the kitchen of the rented house. House owner Manorama Sahu informed police that a woman and her son had been living as tenants for about two months. The woman had not been seen for the past few days, while her son had allegedly gone missing since Sunday.
Suspicion grew when dirty water began oozing through the kitchen floor and the foul smell intensified. Neighbours and the house owner suspected that a body might have been concealed beneath the plastered floor.
Following the complaint, Kumbharapada police reached the spot and launched an investigation. On Tuesday, police dug up the kitchen floor and recovered the decomposed body.
Police sources said the accused son is believed to have murdered his mother and buried her under the kitchen floor before plastering it. Further investigation is underway and efforts are on to nab the absconding accused.
