Bhubaneswar: The Aryapalli Marine Police on Tuesday arrested a man for impersonating a doctor and running an unlicensed clinic at Aryapalli in Ganjam district.
The accused has been identified as Prasanjeet Sarkar, a resident of West Bengal, who is reportedly a Class 10 dropout. Despite having no medical qualifications, Sarkar had been treating patients, prescribing medicines, and operating a clinic under the guise of being a qualified doctor.
“We received information from a reliable source that an person without any formal medical education was treating patients and dispensing medicines under the pretense of being a licensed doctor. Acting on the tip-off, we conducted a raid late last night and apprehended the person,” said Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Vidya Bharati while addressing mediapersons.
During interrogation, Sarkar allegedly confessed that he had failed his matriculation exams and had been posing as a doctor. The investigation led the police to Gandhi Chhak, where they discovered his unauthorized clinic.
Upon inspection, police seized a substantial quantity of medicines and medical equipment from the premises. Sarkar was arrested on the spot and is scheduled to be produced before the court later today.
