Bhubaneswar: After a brief dry spell, Odisha is likely to witness wet days again during Dussehra festivities, with a low-pressure area expected to form over the Bay of Bengal today.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an upper-air cyclonic circulation is prevailing over the South Andaman Sea. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal. Due to its impact, rainfall is likely at various places across Odisha in the next few days, with the intensity expected to increase on October 14 and 15.
With Durga Puja preparations in full swing, the possibility of rain has raised concerns among organizers and traders.
As per the Met Department, favourable conditions exist for the formation of the low-pressure system due to the active cyclonic circulation over the Andaman Sea and adjoining areas. Once formed, the system is likely to move in a west-northwestward direction. However, more clarity on its track and intensity will emerge in the next 24 to 48 hours. Under the influence of the changing weather system, the sky is likely to remain cloudy in some parts of the state from tonight onwards, with light to moderate rainfall expected.
On October 14 and 15, there is a possibility of rain accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds at some places. The distribution and intensity of rainfall in different districts will depend on the movement of the low-pressure system.
Meanwhile, mandap construction, decoration work and market preparations for Durga Puja are underway in full swing across various cities of the state. If rain occurs during this period, Puja preparations and shopping activities are likely to be affected.
