Bhubaneswar: Widespread rain and thunderstorms across Odisha brought major relief from the gruelling heat on Thursday, with day temperatures dropping sharply in all places.
Boudh was the only station to cross 40°C, recording 40.1°C. All other places remained below the 40-degree mark.
Western Odisha towns that had been reeling under intense heat saw a steep fall. Jharsuguda, which consistently recorded above 40°C in recent days, dropped to 32.6°C. Sambalpur recorded 35°C, Titilagarh 38.6°C, Bolangir 39°C, Angul 39.1°C, Dhenkanal 39°C, and Nayagarh 38°C.The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded 37.2°C and 37.6°C respectively.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued an Orange Warning for Friday, June 13, asking people to be prepared to take action. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind reaching 50 to 60 kmph is very likely at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Gajapati.
Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Gajapati. A Yellow Warning has been issued for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh, where thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 40 to 50 kmph are expected at one or two places.
Hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail at isolated places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh.
