Bhubaneswar: In a horrific crime, a youth accused of raping a minor girl allegedly killed her and cut her body into small pieces before dumping them into multiple places in Sundergarh district. The accused, Kunu Kisan, was out on bail in a rape case and had hatched a conspiracy to kill the girl to escape conviction.

According to Jharsuguda SP Smith P Parmar, the police, with the help of the ODRAF team, found all the body parts of the girl from several places in Sundergarh. The girl, who belonged to Sundergarh, was staying at her uncle’s house in Jharsuguda when she was allegedly kidnapped by Kisan.

The police investigation revealed that Kisan had changed the number plate of his bike and wore a helmet during the journey to avoid detection. He also tried to convince the girl to give a favourable statement in court, but she refused.

The motive behind the murder was to prevent the girl from giving a statement in court, which would have led to Kisan’s conviction, the SP said.

“He killed the deceased near NH 143-Rourkela Deogarh road under Lathikatha PS of Rourkela district. Then he cut the body into small parts and disposed off the body in the Tarkera nullah under Raghunathpalli police station, Balughat of Brahmani River under Raghunathpalli Police station,” SP added.

Today morning, Jharsuguda Police, along with the DFSL team and ODRAF team, collected various pieces of evidence from the above spots and recovered cut parts of the body, clothes, and footwear, which were identified by her family members.

Police have seized all the body parts, clothes, footwear, and the weapon of offense and have arrested the prime accused and one of his accomplices.

A DNA test will be conducted to establish the identity of the deceased, and the Police will submit the charge sheet without delay, ensuring a speedy trial of the case, the SP maintained.

IG Himanshu Lal said “We will try to ensure a speedy trial of the case and conviction of the accused. The arrest of the accused is not the punishment. We want the accused to be convicted and punished by the court. Our focus is to arrest the accused and try to convict them in such cases. As per the instructions of the Chief Minister and the DGP, there is zero tolerance for any crimes. We will investigate such cases professionally and scientifically and try to ensure 100% conviction in all cases. We will also do the same in this case.”
