Bhubaneswar: Odisha-based renowned satirical cartoonist Gyana Rath passed away at the age of 62 on Sunday night while being treated at SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack.
Rath was admitted to the SCB Hospital after being critically injured in an accident on Sunday, where he passed away while receiving treatment.
The leading cartoonist was known for his pocket cartoons, “Jane Hasibey,” published in the Odia daily “The Samaja,” which were extremely popular among readers.
“Very sad to share that we have lost one of the leading cartoonists of our time, Shri Gyana Rath, last night. His pocket cartoon ‘Jane Hasibey’ published in the daily ‘Samaja’ was very popular. Besides, he had prepared cartoon books ‘Political Zoo’ and ‘Biju Badshah.’ It is a great loss for cartoon lovers of the State. My deepest condolence to his family members. May the noble soul rest in peace,” Odisha-based cartoonist Kamala Kanta Rath wrote on his Facebook.
Apart from “Samaj,” the Kendrapara-origin cartoonist also served in many leading newspapers, including Dharitri and Anupam Bharat.
