Deogarh: The Forest Department on Monday detained a retired forester after recovering a deer skin and 17 peacock feathers from his residence in Aksharshila village under the Barkote range in Deogarh district.

The accused has been identified as Kishore Chandra Pradhan.

Acting on a tip-off, officials from the Barkote Range Forest Department conducted a search of Pradhan’s residence. During the inspection, they recovered a deer skin and 17 peacock feathers—both protected under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

The Forest Department has seized the items, and Pradhan is currently being held for questioning. Further investigation into the incident is underway.

Possession of wildlife body parts, including peacock feathers and deer skin, without legal permission is a punishable offence under the law.
