Bhubaneswar: A former medical officer of Madhyakhand Primary Health Centre in Nayagada district was sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) by a Vigilance court here on Wednesday in a bribery case.
Dr Kedarnath Pal, who has since retired, was also fined Rs 20,000 by the Additional Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, after being convicted in a case registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
According to Odisha Vigilance, Pal had demanded and accepted a bribe from a staffer of Madhyakhand PHC for disbursement of a HUDCO loan.
Pal was charge-sheeted under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Following his conviction, Odisha Vigilance said it would move the competent authority for stoppage of Pal’s pension.
