Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Balangir on Tuesday sentenced retired Revenue Inspector (RI) Ramesh Chandra Mishra to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 after convicting him in a corruption case involving misappropriation of government funds.

Mishra, a former Revenue Inspector in the office of the Special Land Acquisition Officer, LSIP, Balangir, had been charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c) and 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Sections 419, 420, 468, 471, 477-A and 120-B of the IPC.

According to Odisha Vigilance, Mishra abused his official position and adopted faulty official procedures to facilitate payment of land compensation to an ineligible person, resulting in the misappropriation of government funds.

Following the conviction, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Balangir, sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years and directed him to pay a fine of Rs 10,000.

Odisha Vigilance said it will now move the competent authority for stoppage of Mishra’s pension benefits in accordance with the rules governing convicted retired government employees.
