Bhubaneswar: The Revenue Department of the Odisha government enthusiastically observed the Handloom Attire Wearing Initiative on Friday, with officers and employees attending office dressed in the state’s rich and traditional handloom garments. The initiative aimed at expressing respect and support for Odisha’s centuries-old weaving and handloom industry.
Marking the occasion, officials gathered for a group photograph in front of Lok Seva Bhawan, symbolising the department’s collective commitment to promoting Odisha’s handloom heritage and encouraging wider use of indigenous textiles.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Arabinda Padhee, Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department, said the initiative seeks to encourage the use of locally produced handloom fabrics while supporting the livelihoods of traditional weavers across the state.
He noted that such efforts would not only strengthen the handloom sector but also help increase awareness and appreciation of Odisha’s distinctive weaving traditions among government employees as well as the general public.
Dr. Padhee also appreciated the enthusiastic participation of officers and staff in the initiative.
Notably, the Revenue Secretary had earlier written to all officers and employees of the department’s offices, urging them to wear handloom attire every Friday as a way of promoting Odisha’s traditional handloom culture and supporting local artisans.
